Last month Steve and Daisy revved their Harley and headed back to Austin to not only cruise the Hill Country back roads, but to also raise awareness for fallen police officers. The Peace*Love*Happiness ride is a private, invitational charity event formed in 2002 by two friends: John Paul Dejoria, American billionaire, creator of the Paul Mitchell product line and philanthropist and Gary Spellman, business partner and owner of Ultimate Face Cosmetics. Besides endless amounts of barbeque and mild debauchery, over 100 motorcycle riders- with some celebrity spottings-suited up for a police-escorted and supported event that wound through the countryside. At the end of the weekend, everyone’s presence represented an enormous swell of support for law enforcement and their families when tragedy strikes a community.

Peace*Love*Happiness in the Hill Country

The group saddled up with local police escorts for the initial ride to Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse in Spicewood, Texas, the birthplace of the PLH ride. At this Spicwood pit stop in 2002, John Paul Dejoria and Gary Spellman decided to take a stand after hearing an Austin police officer was criticized for risking his life to save another. Since that day, the charity ride took to the road, and now the event sponsors the 100 Club of Central Texas as well as The Water Keeper’s Alliance.

The second day consisted of a scenic spring drive on the Bee Cave back roads with Jesse James and his new wife Alexis Dejoria. The crew then filled up on barbeque and rock and roll for the remainder of the sun-laden afternoon.

The last evening was a private event spent at the Backyard and was filled with friends, food, Patron tequila and performances by Patricia Von and Del Castillo (pictured below). Each rider and participant was filled with not only memories from the event, but a deeper appreciation of what each police officer sacrifices for us each day in the line of duty. Steve and Daisy are already looking forward to gearing up for the next ride in 2013.

Lamborghini Festival 2013 benefiting Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital

All years and models of Lamborghinis flooded Houston’s City Center for the second-annual from April 6-8. Money was raised for child terminal diseases via artwork, posters, raffles and on Saturday, participants headed to Motor Sport Ranch to lap the track and raise additional funds by paid rides with Valentino Balboni, who was the chief test driver of Lamborghini for 40 years. The brand labeled a 2009 addition to the Gallardo lineup the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, one of which was present at the festival.

The Lamborghini event was a concept that was derived from Edge Revolution, a worldwide group of automotive, aviation and maritime industries that have come together to help children who are battling terminal diseases and to make a difference in the world.

Last weekend New World Auto Transport owners Steve and Daisy Wells packed their bags to head to the windy city of Chicago Austin. The duo left their Katy headquarters to attend the chilly 2013 Rolex Grand-Am Race, the second-biggest event held on the Circuit of the Americas track since the Formula1 race in August 2012. On top of their general passion for all things ‘fast cars’, the couple is constantly searching for new target markets to cater to in order to further their business mission. In this case, they’re covering the race car shipment base.

Unlike the Formula1 race, the Grand-Am has a completely different fan feel. Patrons are welcome to mill about the paddocks while mingling with drivers and their cars. Besides getting this complete pit stop experience and exploring the new C.O.T.A. additions, Daisy Wells was able to take a hotlap, and she hitched a lap around the track with one of the drivers.

Race car shipment: Business op amongst the fun

Although Steve and Daisy were able to romp around Austin’s 6^th street scene, they also gained valuable market insight when it comes to the racing industry. While at the F1 racetrack, the couple noticed that the logistics behind shipping race cars makes more sense economically and also adds convenience.

“Instead of independent, club drivers getting their own trucks, trailers and shipping their own cars, our option allows them to simply fly in and race,” said Steve. “It becomes a matter of time and convenience.”

Steve also said that it’s becoming common for a group of say, five guys to pull together to ship their cars to race day and back. They hope to expand their business in this arena.

• The big Rolex Series win of the Sunday was No. 99 Gainsco/Bob Stallings team. This Dallas-based team along with drive Jon Fogarty took the lead with a Corvette DP with around 15 minutes remaining. His win extended his all-time pole record to 24.
• Early Saturday, the Continental Tire Sport Car Championship race was won by Turner Motorsport’s Paul Dalla Lana and Bill Auberlen, who actually rallied from 12^th place.
